There are many free file hosting sites. There are none that have unlimited file upload or unlimited online storage that I am aware of. But it is hard to beat free. Well, “free and secure” would beat just “free”. The first service on the list is of this writing is under the control of the U. S. District Court.
Megaupload
Sized by order of the U. S. District Court for piracy and copyright infringement
Rapidshare
Has a 200 MB limit for the free version. Requires registration
Both Rapidshare and Megaupload have been accused of Online Piracy and Counterfeiting. I found both of these sites to be slow (before the seizure).
Dropbox
Many swear by Dropbox. The free version (2 GB maximum file storage) is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
YouSendIt
Is purported to be a secure digital file delivery service. The free service supports sending files 50 MB in size.
Box.net
Online storage 5 to 50 GB and File size limit 25 MB to 1GB
File Factory
Upload up to 50 files of any type, up to 2000MB each.
GameFront.com File Hosting
Registered users will have their files deleted after 180 days of inactivity. Files from anonymous users are deleted after 7 days of inactivity.
ShareSend
100 MB limit. No registration required.
FileSavr (merged with File Dropper)
5 GB limit. No registration required. Was slow.
However it does have a nice CDN (content distribution network ) feature, allowing you to share a link to your uploaded file and Embed Code to share the file.
